Rumour has it that New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is the most popular grape for women aged 25 to 45. We’ll look at what makes this particular one so full of flavour. We’ll also look at one from Sancerre, France, its homeland. We’ll explore a super-premium oaked style and a Sauternes dessert bottle that is a blend containing Sauvy. We’ll announce the exact bottles we will open soon, but if you have any of these styles at home save them for the tasting and join us.
1. Pascal Jolivet Sancerre, France (211.50 AED). Alternative bottle: Any French Sauvignon Blanc. They don’t always say Sauvignon Blanc on the label so looks for bottles that say Sancerre, Fume Blanc, Touraine or whites from Bordeaux that cost 150 AED or less)
2. Endless River Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand (59 AED). Alternative bottle: Any Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand under 200 AED.
3. Cloudy Bay Te Koko, New Zealand (394 AED). This bottle represents the premium, oaked style. These tend to be on the expensive side and many great ones come from California. Alternative bottle: You’re most likely to find this style in the USA, South Africa and New Zealand. Premium white Bordeaux, Graves or Pessac-Leognan is oaked as well. You may have to read the back of the label to find this one. Look for words in the label description like spice, toast and smoke. Outside of France, the word fume can indicate this style.
4. Chateau Armjans des Ormes, Sauternes, France (150.25 AED). Alternative bottle: Any Sauternes will work.
All the grapes have been sourced from MMI in Dubai and Spinneys in Abu Dhabi, who are offering a 10% discount off bubbles, grapes & spirits when you show this email in-store. However, if you’re already well-stocked, just grab a similar bottle (suggestions below), such as the same grape variety, and join in!
